Yesterday saw the official launch of MyMarriageStory.com.au as part of the Real Families, Real Stories campaign.

The website allows people to tell their own stories about why marriage equality matters personally to them, whether they are in a same-sex relationship or simply support marriage equality.

Marriage inequality doesn’t just affect couples who cannot get married, but it affects their families, their friends and the whole community, says Alex Greenwich, National Convenor of Australian Marriage Equality.

“Everyone’s marriage story is unique, and this website aims to show that every story is special and should be treated equally,” Greenwich said.

“We want to hear from people who want to get married but can’t because the law won’t let them. We want to hear from these people’s families and friends who have their own love story to tell. And we want to hear the stories of those who are lucky enough to marry their soulmates."

Individuals can go to the website and by clicking on the 'Take Action' tab can submit their personal stories and upload pictures to the site.

The Real Families, Real Stories campaign is being run under the auspices of umbrella group Marriage Equality Matters (MEM). MEM is organising people from across Australia to travel to Canberra on Wednesday October 12 to meet with MPs and share their stories.

MEM media coordinator Anastasia Stomo told GNN people could still register to travel to Canberra if they wished, simply by registering on MyMarriageStory.com.au.

"People have the option of sharing their story on the website, or they can keep it private and still register as a supporter," Stomo said.

"If you want to come to Canberra, tick the box on the site and you will be contacted regarding arrangements for the day.

"We want same-sex couples, straight people, families, friends - basically we want as broad a spectrum of people as possible to tell the reality of marriage inequality to our MPs."
