Star-studded line-up for Prop 8 play

The full cast for the Australian production of Dustin Lance-Black’s play, 8, has been announced to include many more well known Australian stars.

The play, based on the California’s controversial Proposition 8, has previously featured the likes of Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and George Clooney during the American productions.

For the Australian readings of 8, Rachel Griffiths, Magda Szubanski, Georgie Parker, Catherine McClements, Gyton Grantley, Rachael Blake, Martin Crewes and Tony Martin have all now joined the star studded line up

They are performing alongside Lisa McCune, Daniel MacPherson, Shane Jacobson, Spencer McLaren, Jay Laga'aia, Angus McLaren, Blake Davis, Anthony Brandon Wong, Kate Whitbread, Rob Wardrop, Nicholas Bell, Luke Clayson, David Tredinnick and Julian Shaw.

8 will be staged in Melbourne and Sydney coinciding with the release of the Senate report into Marriage Equality and the funds raised supporting Australian Marriage Equality.

8 premieres at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne on June 8 and is followed by the Sydney performance on June 9 and Sydney Town Hall.

    It seems marriage equality in the US is a more complex issue. There, marriage equality is state based, whereas in Australia it is federally based. Where the American Congress comes into play is in allowing state married queer couples federal entitlements.
