Midnight Shift reinstates cover charges
Increased music performance fees force Midnight Shift to begin charging cover on weekends
Increased music performance fees have forced the Midnight Shift’s new owners to start charging upstairs entertainment entry fees, which will also assist its continued sponsorship of community groups.
With the new charges the venue will be co-producing three new full-production shows, including two new Friday shows with new casts, after spending more than $500,000 in the past 13 months on shows and DJs.
“The decision was agonised over and not reached easily,” a media statement said.
For each person entering the venue the company incurs charges from the Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA), which is understood to cost more than $5.80 per entrant.
