Growing activism and a shift in public mood towards marriage equality, culminating in the ALP adopting same-sex marriage as part of its policy platform, was the big news this year. But plenty of other good and not so good things have also gone down. Alex Dunkin gives an overview.

ADELAIDE: Recent comments from SA Premier Mike Rann declaring his support for equal marriage rights have been welcomed by the LGBTI community.

I'll start this column by saying I don't know Mike Rann. I've never met him, personally or professionally, mainly because apart from announcing some 11 or 12 years ago that the ALP party platform included recognising same-sex couples as de factos, he's kept his mouth pretty well shut on LGBTI issues.

ADELAIDE: Despite the support from South Australian Premier Mike Rann for marriage equality, as well as Opposition Liberal Leader Isobel Redmond, not everyone in state politics believes there is a majority of support for same-sex marriage.
